Back on July 10, 2026 Fox News posted a story titled “Socialists launch radical platform to abolish the US Senate in bid to fundamentally transform America” where they made claims about what the Democratic Socialist of America (DSA) had planned for their new platform which was to be released in about a week. Fox News claimed “a source familiar with the DSA’s planning” had informed them of these plans.
Here are the claims made by Fox news, I screenshot each one for proof…
First, Fox News claimed that the DSA plans “eliminating the Senate and replacing the president and the Supreme Court with an executive and judiciary chosen by Congress”.
Second, which is basically a repeat of the first claim, Fox News claimed that the DSA plans “eliminating the U.S. Senate and replacing the president and the Supreme Court with an executive branch and judiciary chosen by and subordinate to Congress”.
Third, Fox News claimed that the DSA plans “amnesty for all immigrants and defunding the Department of War”.
Fourth, Fox News claimed that the DSA plans “establishing a 32-hour work week “with no reduction in pay or benefits,” the passage of Medicare for All, canceling all student loan debt, the elimination of cash bail and universal rent control”.
Yes I’m aware that each of those contain multiple claims. Overall I count nine claims, which are:
- Eliminate the Senate.
- Replace the President and the Supreme Court.
- Amnesty for all immigrants.
- Defund the Department of War.
- Establishing a 32-hour work week.
- Passage of Medicare for all.
- Canceling all student debt.
- Elimination of cash bail.
- Universal rent control.
When I read the Fox News article that was predicting the future based on unidentified sources it caused my skepticism meter to peg in the red zone and I immediately posted the following comment…
Today I finally followed up on my vow to fact check the claims in article.
I headed over to the DSA’s website to see if they had posted their platform, or “Program” as the DSA calls it. I found their program published at this link. I began to search through their program to find any references that could support the claims made by Fox News and here are screenshots of what I found, the numbers coincide with the list above.
1. Eliminate the Senate…
2. Replace the President and the Supreme Court…
3. Amnesty for all immigrants…
4. Defund the Department of War…
5. Establishing a 32-hour work week.
7. Canceling all student debt…
6. Passage of Medicare for all…
8. Elimination of cash bail…
9. Universal rent control…
My evaluation of the facts as presented:
1. Items 1,2,3,4,5,7, and 9 were all completely accurate.
2. Although these phrases have been used by both sides of the political aisle as interchangeable, the Fox News 6th claim about “Medicare for all” really isn’t the exact same thing as “Guarantee universal healthcare at no cost to individuals” but based on 21st century rhetoric I’m willing to give this one to Fox News as being reasonably accurate.
3. The DSA’s program didn’t specifically say anything about the Fox News 8th claim “elimination of cash bail” but let’s face it, the elimination of cash bail likely falls squarely within the DSA’s Program statement “fully abolishing the police and prison system” plan. I think this specific claim fails in accuracy but doesn’t fail based on the core proposed changes presented by the DSA.
Overall, I think Fox News did a good job of presenting what turned out to be an accurate article, based on their unnamed source that turned out to be reliable. When news organizations are predicting the future as fact based on unnamed sources they take a chance that their prediction will turn out to be fake future news, it’s nothing but moral luck if the story turns out to be factually accurate.
This time, for the most part, Fox News got their predictions right.
Final Note: This essay is not in any way a presentation of my opinion of the DSA’s “Program”, this is only an essay evaluating the accuracy of the specific future claims that Fox News made about the DSA’s plan.
