If You’re Not Part Of The Mob, It’s Eventually Coming After You Too

Back in the quaint days of the mid 20th century, you might have found an article like this in a publication that was equivalent to the self proclaimed “world’s best satire site” The Babylon Bee, but times have changed. What the satirical minds of fictional geniuses once created as entertainment absurdities about social constructs and obvious twisting of the news of the day were fun to read and everyone knew they were fake. These kinds of satires were absurd and hilarious because we all knew deep down that that kind of nonsense could never happen in the United States of America, so we all laughed, loudly. Sadly, we’re not laughing so much anymore. Absurd social constructs, like mob rule, have somehow become so ingrained into the core beliefs of multiple generations that in the 21st century it’s shaping a new reality that’s setting aside long held American values.

The new reality that’s taken hold of our 21st century culture is as follows: if you dare to contradict the preferred narrative of the mob or you’re a known dissenter of the mobs rule, you are socially silenced by the mob, regardless of facts.

How dare your opinion differ from the preferred narrative!

I’ve been talking about this cancel culture social silencing problem for a number of years now, but what’s becoming alarming is mob rule is being institutionalized and it’s becoming systematic behind the scenes making it an unpublished systemic problem.

I’m going to use social media as low hanging fruit to show this systemic problem.

It’s been my observation that social media platforms and blogs have become the preferred 21st century method of sharing opinions on all kinds of topics, this is where the vast majority of the population chooses to exercise their freedom of speech. The problem is, and has been for a while, that free speech on social media is increasingly hitting a totalitarian minded, mob rule, process. This mob rule is an anti free speech wall that’s wide open to abuse and it’s being used to target speech and/or people that the mob doesn’t like. They’re literally censoring free speech under false pretenses.

No, this is not breaking news hot off the presses, social media platform administrators and owners are well aware that this is happening and they’re intentionally ignoring it and as a result the mob rule is intentionally being enabled. What’s happening is unethical, morally bankrupt, anti-Constitutional, and anti-American. This is exactly what happened on Twitter before Elon Musk purchased it and cleaned house.

I think we’re all reasonably aware of how users and moderators on Twitter, aka “X”, were silencing speech they didn’t like and they were allowed to do so because of how it the easily abused moderation system was set up, the results of that system was Twitter became a virtual partisan bubble surrounded by a sea reality in the real world. Now remembering what happened on Twitter, are you aware of what’s happening on other social media platforms like Facebook, Reddit, or even that very neighborly social media platform Nextdoor? Are you aware of how Likes, Up & Down votes (See my Final Note), Heart Emojies etc, are being used and how their reporting systems work? Do you care? If you aren’t aware how these things work and you don’t want to be some kind of apathetic puppet feeding a corrupted system by casting positive votes for things you like and negative votes for things you don’t like, let me fill you in a little bit. These cute little blow sunshine tools social media platforms give you are being used by computer preprogrammed algorithms and mobs of biased people that cast votes on if they believe something written on social media violates some written or unwritten rule. Now don’t be duped into believing that these judgements are accurate and the commenter actually violated some rules, these systems are set up to allow bias to override integrity and written content is being removed whether it violates rules or not. It’s an absolute democracy system and whatever the voting mob rules is considered truth and fact.

I recently became aware of the extent of how these systems are set up and how they allow this kind of mob rule abuse to take place and I documented the abuse in a multipart series on my blog titled “Moderation in Nextdoor Deforest, WI Community Has Been Thoroughly Corrupted!” Currently there are three parts – Part 1, Part 2, and Part 3 plus this essay, there could be more in the future. Since posting Part 3 of the series, I’ve gained additional insight into just how low the abusers of the system will stoop to silence people they oppose. As of the date and time posting this essay, the corruption is continuing.

My sister is an elected Village politician in a neighboring community of Dane County Wisconsin. She has a following of people in her community, a hate filled mob, that seem to be suffering from some level of Witherspoon Derangement Syndrome. These people have been attacking her online relentlessly with twisted misinformation and lies for over a year. They have also been successfully silencing her by abusing the moderation system. About a month ago my sister was suspended again. This time they suspended her and included in their justification for doing so a comment that was deleted by Nextdoor moderators for being disrespectful. Here is the comment in full…

“Well said!!!”

Yup, that’s it, two complementary words and the hate filled mob trying to silence everything that my sister posts on Nextdoor voted it down as being disrespectful.

No, this isn’t satire. Don’t believe me, here is the proof…

There are lots of similar examples showing the obvious bias of the corrupted moderation system on Nextdoor, I’ve shown more of them in my blog series. I’m sure some people will just shrug it off with a “who cares” or “what can I do”; well, I care and if you care too, you can stand up for long held American values and freedom of speech and stand against these totalitarian hacks that are dominating and running these social media platforms.

As I quoted in Part 2 of my blog series, a long term Nextdoor moderator describes the moderation process like this…

The philosophy is designed to work like this: posts should only be removed if the village majority believe they are in violation. Moderators are supposed to represent the village’s diverse opinions by getting a vote that allows them to speak for some.”

Notice that they are simply looking for a majority that “believe” something regardless if it’s actually true or not!  That’s the epitome of mob rule.

A lie is still a lie, even if everyone believes it.
A fact is still a fact, even if no one believes it.

Final Note: Speaking of Up & Down votes; there was a sci-fi show called The Orville that has a 2017 episode titled Majority Rule that deals with a planet that was ruled by an absolute democracy and shows how putting this kind of absolute democracy power in the hands of the masses (mob rule) can go wrong, very wrong! As we were still witnessing the rise of the cancel culture mobs around that time, it was certainly a timely episode. If you’re interested in watching this episode, you can get it on Amazon Video, search for Season 1 Episode 7 The Orville: Majority Rule. It’s a 44 minute episode and if by chance you’re an Amazon Prime member you can get pretty cheap.
