What Is Going On?

The purpose of the Society’s Building Blocks blog is “Critically Thinking About Things That Change Society” and it’s been a rather depressing task in the 21st century to witness all the absurdities coming to the forefront of our society that are destroying our culture and the core foundations of our country.

In recent weeks I’ve learned that 42 million people in our society are receiving Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits. The population of the United States is roughly 340 million so that 42 million calculates out to be about 12.4% of our population that are receiving money to buy food, theoretically because they don’t have enough money to buy food. That’s about one in eight people receiving government food assistance; seriously! I get that once in a while some people will need a little help to tide them over an economic hump in their life but over 12% of our population?! What the hell is happening!

Here is a map created using 2023 data showing the distribution of SNAP benefits across the USA.

What the hell happened to the responsibility, resilience and resourcefulness of the people of the USA?

There is a declining lack of individual responsibility growing in the USA, and as that grows, dependency on the government takes over. The end result of this trend is very bad for the core foundations that have made the USA a beacon for freedom and liberty and turned us into a world leader.

  1. Menominee County sticks out like a sore @$$ in WESconsin; nationally (especially in Alaska) a number of other Native American Reservations do as well.

While falsely attributed to Henry Ford, here’s inescapably clear and painfully evident truth:

Any Man Who Thinks He Can Be Happy And Prosperous By Letting The Government Take Care Of Him, Better Take A Closer Look At The American Indian.”
